Postby blakeuk » Thu Aug 31, 2006 1:06 am

Hi all, Bit rude of me, been here some while and not made myself known.
So here goes, my name is Paul, I live in Tiptree Essex (best jam in the world) I'm 33, own 12" Dob with several binos. Went on holiday in May 06 to Tuscon where we viewed telescopes on Kitt Peak, Lowell and saw meteor crater. Need togo back to Kitt Peak now!!
Have a fellow friend on here to, Mark.s, so hi to you if u read this. It was Mark that made me think I had better introduce myself.
Looking at joining a local club, I hear there is one around the Witham area?? Once again, hello all.

Hi Paul, and a belated welcome to the forum.

Not too far away from you, just up the A12 and six miles inside the Suffolk border. Also have relative living in Tiptree.

There was/is a club in Witham, the North Essex AS. They used to, or maybe still do, meet once month at the Telephone Exchange in Witham. They also have quite a comprehensive observatory out at Bures.

However , their web-site has been 'off the air' for months, and still is. Unless of course they've changed their url.

The Federation of Astronomical Society's (FAS) web-site, still lists the club and it's original url.

I suppose it is possible, that the club 'folded', but I would think that unlikely.

The next "nearest" clubs to you are Castle Point AS (near Rayliegh, I think), and Orwell AS at Ipswich.

Welcome, Paul [:)]

Nice to see another 'local'... I'm just up in the road in colchester. Rubbish jam here!

The BBC website lists contact details for NEAS:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/space/myspace/localspace/south_index.shtml

But their domain name seems to have expired and been grabbed up by someone else (as it's full of adverts, and a link at the bottom about it being for sale!)...
