Aurora alert Friday 24th Nov

Thu Nov 23, 2006 11:26 pm

I think I should flag up that a dense solar wind stream is entering earths magnetic field now. The wind stream should take affect by tomorrow and fingers crossed lasted into darkness. The activity will be strong and the UK and Eire may see Aurora tomorrow night. I will update when need be :)

The geomagnetic field is
expected to range from quiet to active from 24 - 26 November. There
is the possibility of isolated periods of minor storming for the
entire forecast period.

Hello Connor,

Where did you get your info?

I am suposed to get email alerts for Auroras - but nothing yet!!
Not that the weather of the last few days or forecast for next few makes it even remotely likely that I would see it anyway!!!

Thanks

Steve

I get clip-its from all over the net and then come to a conclusion if we could see Aurora or not. It takes 'alot' of pratice to not just go by one single forecast but to make up your own in a sense. I get info from about 6 sites eg space weather/ discussion forum, traffic lights, latest aurora news....

Let me guess who you get your alerts from.... Aurora Watch UK?? There are really really bad and i never trust them!

You can see some activity already

I'm assuming you need a very dark site to see aurorae (is that correct plural?!).
I'm almost 30 and I've never in my life seen one. [:(]

I find that very strange to be honest. Im 16 and have seen about 25-30 Auroras. If you can see stars you can see Aurora. Its all about checking for Auroras every night and keeping tight eyes on the sky!

No you don't need a very dark site I have seen at the edge of a city with a poulation of 1/2 million so it can be seen.

I take the dog out every night late on, and have done for my entire life. I can't understand how the closest I've come to an Aurora is in Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" series! [&:]
