Baader Hyperion 5mm Plossl?

Postby 47Tuc » Sun Oct 24, 2010 7:30 am

In the September Group Test of Planetary eyepieces the Baader Hyperion 3.5mm and 5mm's optical design is described as "Plossl". Since they each have 8 glass elements, how can they be Plossls?

No reply?...from anyone?[&o]
I would have thought that experienced astronomers would know the answer: Can an eyepiece with eight elements in 5 groups be a Plossl? I presume the answer is no and therefore the group test has got it wrong.

No, but it can be a Plossl with a built-in barlow / powermate ... the Hyperions certainly have the latter. The actual design is proprietary.
