Beginners Hello from Street Lit Witham

Postby spaceman dave » Thu Jul 27, 2006 1:23 am

Hello Everyone,
Two of my boys' invited me to an astronomy night at their Boys' Brigade and I re-discovered a passion for something I didn't know I had.
I have had a Skyhawk 1145 since April and although I don't use it that often I am amazed how much pleasure I got from Jupiter and it's four major moons.
My most incredible moment was seeing the rings of Saturn and a little speck of light nearby which others believe to be Titan.
My three boys (10,7,3) are all hooked and read through my SAN although the smallest one, when quizzed on the name of a planet just says "big one" or "Small one"
I look forward to speaking to you all very soon.

Hi Dave, and welcome to the forum.

There was, and still is I believe, a very good club in Witham. The North Essex Astronomy Society met/meet once a month at the Telephone Exchange social club building, and they also have a very comprehensive observatory at Bures.

Hi Dave,
Witham means you're not far from me, I'm just outside Tiptree. The North Essex Astro Society seems to have dropped off the radar, I last went there about 4 years ago and can't seem to contact anyone.
Anyhow, happy observing, maybe we'll bump into each other in a dark field somewhere!

All the best

Hi Dave,
A very warm welcome to a very friendly and informative forum. Glad you found your way back into the hobby and glad to have you aboard.
John.
To me astronomy is looking up and thinking "What the heck is going on up there!!"
