Big comets

Postby wilse » Fri Jan 27, 2006 2:33 pm

Hello everyone, I am new here and have a question.

In the latest issue of the magazine, there's an article about Kuiper Belt objects and comets. In there it says that some comets can be vast, even larger than the Sun.
Surely that is a mistake, I can't see how you could have a comet that is larger than a star, whatever its density. Has anyone else read this?

Chris,
Although I have not seen the article yet, I assume that what it meant was that the size was including the ion and / or dust tails which can extend for millions of miles and not the size of the nucleus alone.

This was my understanding of the article but....... are they as large as the national debt?
