I've not really been on for a while, can't believe how far this has come on in a relatively short time. That looks absolutely the last word man.

Just doing the first test fit of the actual dome... need to tweak the zenith hole becasue of the offset of the "66"

And now with the bottom two rows of battens fitted and the segments of the roof ring all glued together...

After the glue has dried it will be off with the dome, level and fix the top wall ring, and whilst the dome is down fit the top row of battens and adjust the zenith hole...

But thats after food.....

Thanks Mark...

No pictures of todays work as it was "only" levelling an painting the dome ring , ffinishign of the woodwork on the dome and undercoating the dome (still need to adjust the zenith hole). 2.5l of paint gone on already the wood and especially the ply is just soaking it up so more paint needed

Have found the bearings for the dome...they are called ball transfer units - normally used for material handling tables...will order them from RS Components tomorrow - p/n is 687-590 is anyone else has a use for them.

Will fit probably 12 of these into the dome ring and have a 3mm thick galvanised ring fitted to the dome for the bearings to run on..will try and get that cut tomorrow.

Another 10 5m lengths of 6" UPVc shiplap needed to clad the dome as well as some adjustable angle and flat to finish the joins...

Billy...

Getting there....

Modified the viewing slot last night..early start this mornig saw the remaining dome cladding fitted, the bearings fitted and the retaining skirt fitted..

Got all the finishing to do...loads of silicone sealant to seal joints before covering with UPVc flexi angle.. and the viewing slot/zenith hole cover to sort out...

This afternoon I caulked all the joints on the dome with silicone - nice to have a few hours sunsime to do it.. added three wheels running on the innner vertical edge of the top wall ring to keep the dome central on the 12 ball transfer units.. runs quite nicely..and cleaned the "site" up a bit...

Tomorrow I shall mostly be working on the viewing port/zenith hole and adding trim...

Nice work - I just hope the weather isn't going to throw the gale of the century at it just as soon as you've declared the job complete!
