Ce;estron CG5 or Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro

Postby grayebb » Sat Feb 18, 2006 9:16 pm

Does anyone have any advice on the choice between these GOTO mounts? I shall be mounting an 80mm Revelation ST Refractor to do some basic imaging with the view to constant upgrades, etc. Is there really £200 worth of difference from the Celestron to the Skywatcher?
Help!!

Thanks in advance folks.

Yes its all in the mount the Skywatcher is a far superior mount by far.
Ask our resident Skywatcher member and he will explain the quality difference.

There is a huge difference between the CG5 and the HEQ5. The CG5 is essentially an EQ5 which is much lighter duty. The HEQ5 is an excellent mount, certainly capable of handling up to an 8" Reflector with an 80mm Short Tube Refractor. The build quality of both is excellent but the HEQ5 is so substantial.

I would have a chat with the boss!

Thanks Steve. Trouble is that the boss wants a loft conversion and conservatory built. Now that's gonna be about £15K. I'll try and slip in the £800 so that it doesn't seem so bad[;)]
