Dark Skies

A place to discuss the dreaded orange glow

Dark Skies

Postby warnerryden » Wed Feb 17, 2010 10:10 am

I would just like to tell you of my experience when I stayed at Lamplugh in the Lake District. I couldn't believe the ammount of stars I could see from there.
I decided to buy a pair of Celestron 15x70 binoculars form Argos while I was there and I saw more that week with those binoculars than I ever could back home in West Yorkshire with my 10" Dobsonian.
I could actually see the satellite galaxies of m31 for the first time and m51, which I find very hard to even find with the 10" back home.

The next time I'm up there the Dobsonian is coming with me and the luggage can stay at home!!!!!

I was up at 4am this morning because I had forgot to take the dog out last night so he must have been sending me telepathic messages to get out of bed and take him out ( I do believe he is an alien) and it was actually lighter during the night than it was during the day because of all the sodding security lights left on everywhere. WHY? there's nothing to pinch around here, everybody's skint!!!

I think most people nowadays don't even know stars and planets even exist because you just can't see em anymore!!!!!!

I think I'll take the Dobsonian indoors and let the missus use it as a clothes airer until we are fortunate enough to have a massive power cut.[:@]

I would like to add to my previous post.....The brightest object I have seen with my telescope was the "searchlight from the West Yorkshire police helicopter" They were wondering what I was doing up at 01:35 with an empty "missile launcher" pointing towards Bradford!!!!!!!! (Ahhh wishful thinking)

Anyway that was around five years ago now and I've just been released from HMP in Wakefield.....LOL.
