dew heater

what is the best way to build a 12 v dew heater that wont cause an explosion or fire also where do you attach a dew heater is it on the mirror or the tube. should you have ones on the secondary and eyepiece or not.

Hello.

A dew heater would normally go on the tube (in snt's and sct's) at the end around the corrector plate. They generally take the form of electrically heated bands that wrap around the tube. Your first line of defence should be a dew-shield... modern refractors have a sliding one..

Newtonian telescopes and true RCT's (being an open ended design) do not have the corrector plate issue and can cool more rapidly.

Good telescopes may have a fan near the mirror to aid cooldown.
