early morning observations

Postby jonathan turner » Thu Jul 02, 2009 2:03 pm

Since its my day off today,i decided to take advantage of the cleear sky and got up at 0045BST.I used the 6 inch refractor, and try and get some observing done before the sky brightens.I found the usual best objects M27,M57,and for the first time M71,a faint Globular Cluster, very hard to see,and i could'nt make out much, but probably better under really dark skies at kelling in Sept.I later turned my attention to bright Jupiter. The steady seeing made the cloud belts really stand out,and cranking up the mag using a 6ml eyepiece and a green filter,i believe i cought a glimpse of the red spot.
The sunspots seem to have vanished too for the moment.

Did you spot the bright NLC display that was visible to the north/north-east this morning Jonathan?
