Goto Planets ?

Postby aztecastromcj » Mon Jun 15, 2009 3:10 am

i'm still learning about my goto scope but have successfull aligned on several ocassions
it seems very accurate on stars but not so on planets is this Normal i even pointed my scope at jupiter and it IDENTIFIED it as Neptune???? also i asked it to goto moon and it said BELOW HORIZON when it was clearly visible in sky any help would be appreciated
also after entering my following details
077 04'W 82 55N it asks for time zone PST at 1st i just pressed enter on +00:00 then entered date and time and began alignment which was successfull and did go between stars fine (sent it from arcturus to mizar and dubhe mainly all ok but planets seemed wrong??
have realised i should put -00:00 rather than +00:00 for PST ? i think anyway
thought that would solve above prob with planets but it hasnt tried it last night with-00:00 entered and it worked fine again with stars but not planets HELP PLEASE
thanks James
shud i put 00:00 - or + ?

Hi there,

Your signature suggests you are in Glasgow (55.82N 04.077W), but the coordinates you entered in the handbox (077 04'W 82 55N) would have placed you somewhere up in the Arctic Circle). The coordinates should read 04.077W 55.82N
PST stands for Pacific Standard Time, your time zone should be GMT then +1.00 for BST.

Jupiter and Neptune are very close at the moment - about 3/4 of a degree apart
