Hello All

Come and say hello to your fellow Sky at Night Magazine fan

Yes the message is something like ...

"Your post appears too spammy for a new user. Please remove some of your URLs and try again"

Because I had no URLs I shortened it to a single sentence and spent over 2 hours substituting words etc but still could not get a single post in. But it will let me post in this introduction section.
I had no choice but to register with another forum. I really wanted to use this forum which is mostly UK. Plus I just subscribed to SkyAtNight magazine for my daughter who is just starting her PhD in Astronomy. The site where I have been posting is mostly USA.

It is infuriating to see genuine members wanting to post messages but can't because the automated system, yet that same system is happy to let the real spam through!!!
I have tried emailing the forum administrators and the people who run the admin office - no reply!
I use an 11" Celestron SCT (CPC 1100) on an equatorial wedge, housed in a 2.2m Pulsar observatory. I use a ZWO ASI1600MC and Canon 500D for imaging.

Yes Aratus, it is definitely not smart.
Dumber than Dumb actually.
From the image that EIZO posted I can understand why they are bothered about spam, but it is not rocket science to filter out spam.

All you need is to filter out certain key words BUT ONLY key words that are not commonly used.
So filter out WhatsApp but not what or app for example. Another feature they could add is a spam button and rely on the members to police it themselves. The autobot could be set for say 20 spam button hits on a particular post generates an immediate deletion of that post.
Possibly 10 would just flag an account up for human review.

It would need a human to setup and adjust it from time to time but once the best thresholds have been found it will be so much more efficient and totally automatic.

So my vote is for a simple word filter that does not use algorithms coupled with empowering the users who have an established track record of stats.

"Tweak" followed by a space and then "it" is one combination it would not allow.

I really can't figure out why it blocks the word kit when it has a space in the middle of it. MOST STRANGE!

This is my eleventh post,

Hopefully after I get to 12 the system will be gentler with me and allow me to to start posting in the other topic headings.
