Hiya

Hi everyone [:)]

I've been meaning to join the forum for a while, so I'm pleased to have actually got around to doing it!

I'll avoid the list of technical specs, which can come later, and just say that I've got a couple of 'scopes and love taking astrophotos. I use both CCD and film (processed at home) and occasionally, usually after a guinness or two, I dare to show the results to other people. The bottom line for me is that I just love the sky; with naked eye, binoculars, telescope or camera, I never get bored with it.

I currently work as a research fellow at the Univ. of Hertfordshire, before this I was a lecturer for almost 10 years. I loved teaching, and the students were great, but I moved to research to avoid working with university administrators - sort of like Cybermen but without the warmth. Anyway, this rambling is relevant (sort of) because it means that I am very fortunate to have use of the University's observatory - which is fantastic!

Before I go, the attached B&W shot of M53 was taken back in April this year. It's not pin sharp for reasons of (1) gusting winds in the garden, (2) misaligned optics on the telescope, and, (3) too much guinness in the astronomer. Hopefully all of these will improve with time and experience.

I look forward to chatting away some of the cloudier evenings with you.

Looks pretty darn good to me - maybe just a touch too much Guinness though ....... [:D]

Thanks to all for a very much appreciated warm reception. Thank you also for the kind comments on the astrophoto, a little encouragement goes a long way [:)]

Enjoy the evening, I'm hoping it's going to be a clear one tonight.
