I feel very silly

Postby Agomania » Fri Dec 14, 2018 1:06 am

Hi, I leave in UK and I spotted 3 very bright flickering stars/lights in the shape of huge triangle (which is upside down) in the sky. The weird thing was they start moving but not all is the same time  in the bottom star/light is looking like a tail (maybe is my window) and in one second I seen like the shooting star coming out of that star. Can someone explain me what is that?

First of all you are not silly, or at least no more silly than the rest of us. If you saw them in a moving car, they would appear to move with you. It sounds like you may have been looking at the Summer Triangle, which is visible into December. The bottom star does move more quickly, due to Earth's rotation being faster at the equator than the stars at the top of the triangle, both of which are halfway to the pole. As for the shooting star, these are surprisingly common. There is a shower on at the moment and you would have been looking at a time near the peak of the shower.

Even outside of the known showers, there are about 10 meteors per hour, although only 3 would fit into the field of view of a human eye. I quite often capture meteors deliberately on camera, even outside of the main showers.
How can I be one with the universe when we don't know what 96% of it is.
