If I decide to have a go at making a refractor, where would I get the lenses from? Cheers ..

Depends: Were you going to grind your own lenses, or buy stock lenses and shove them in a tube? Word of warning if grinding your own: flint glass is a real sod to polish; it's soft so (a) it doesn't polish easily and (b) it picks up sleeks really easily. You used to be able to get lens blanks from Schott -- its a couple of decades since I ground lenses, so I don't know if you still can.

If you're buying stock lenses, you ought to consider if it's really worth it. The Chinese refractor OTAs (SkyWatcher, etc), even the cheaper ones, are of a quality that it would be difficult to exceed for the same money spent on lenses. If you do go down this route, AstroMedia do achromats up to about 50mm diam which are OK. For bigger stuff, your best bet is probably Optarius, or you might find some surplus stuff either from Phil Dyer or, if you fancy a trip to Nottingham, the superb Anchor Surplus.

Having an objective custom-made would probably be prohibitively expensive.

Hello Stonkin,
Many thanks for your reply. Who is Phil Dyer, and how do I get in touch with him? Cheers.

And, while I'm here, I've just remembered Ian Poyser:

Also Surplus Shed in the US.

Have a 90mm Dia achro, F/10 for $59 at present. Thinking of one myself at that price.

Their 102mm and 127mm objectives seem to disappear fast, usually to ATM'ers.
