LiveView...well sort of..

Postby psychobilly » Sun May 18, 2008 5:23 pm

Having just taken a look at the Website that accompanies Michael Covingtons excellent "Digital SLR Astrophotography" book I followed the following link...

Having a cheap Seagull 2.5X right angled finder and an old V-Gear TalkCam Pro hanging around I decided to give it a go...

Best bit was the "lens ring" on the front of the Webcam was a snug fit into the aperture on the RA finder so it all just pushed together...

The Insulating tape is just to lock off the various adjustable focuses around the place...

Uses AMCap to view the "realtime" video from the webcam whilst focusing.

All I need no is clear skies to try it out...

That should take some of trial and error out focusing Billy.

Hey Billy, gr8 idea, your'e always up to tricks arn't you, and good ones at that :)

I'd say that's a marketable product, as an alternative to a 450D!!
Slap that onto a 400D and away you go!

Wanna make me one? [:D]

Hi Kev,

Cant take any credit for it as I saw it here...

http://ghonis2.ho8.com/rebelmodfocus2.html

and decided to give it a go...

As I said the seagull finder comes of ebay and the V-Gear Talkcam pro is a push fit into the end of the Seagull so no assembly or "adaptors" required :)

Still havent had a clear night to try it yet :(

Finally got round to testing it last night.

At least on a fibre star the Talkcam was carp..only giving any form of image when you were within a fraction of focus...so its probably going to mean sacrificing a SPC900 which should perorm much better. The priciple seems to work just got to implement it properly...
