Press Release :

Luna is a new astronomical society, founded in 2009, and based at the Centre for Life in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Our goals are to bring astronomy to the general public in a manner that is fresh, accessible and above all, friendly. Our base at the Centre for Life in Newcastle means that we’re in a City Centre location with easy access to public transport, and supported by a world-renowned leader in scientific and educational excellence. We also have one of the UK’s finest Planetariums right next door so even if the weather gets in the way of observing the night sky then there’s always something to look at.

We aim to present a series of talks, lectures and demonstrations from some of the world’s foremost astronomers, concentrating on speakers with a gift for reaching the general public. Our current lecture programme includes the former Astronomer Royal, Sir Arnold Wolfendale, and BBC Look North’s Weatherman, Paul Mooney.

Our inaugural meeting is on Tuesday 3rd November 2009 at 1830 hours, in the Education Rooms at the Centre for Life, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Best wishes to all
