Saturn hides star

BBC Focus magazine mentions Saturn occulting a 8th magnitude star on the evening of January 25th.I've not seen mention of this anywhere else.I checked with Starry Night Backyard and it appears that the star HIP42705 dissapears behind the rings at approx 18:50 and reappears again on southern part of the globe at about 21:00.

Duration of a telescope?

I have a curiosity, for how long do you keep using a telescope before you decide to buy a new one? (for example 3/5/10 years?)

Local Sky Parties !!!!!!!!!!!

Does anybody know of any Sky Parties or large clubs that get together regularly for viewing. I live in Basildon, Essex and would find these events a great opportunity to meet others and exchange tips, i can't be the only one who would like this.

Thanks Paul
