Come and say hello to your fellow Sky at Night Magazine fan

Hello from Northampton, UK

Good evening everyone. I am new to astronomy but have always been interested in science and "how its done" so to speak. I have built the Orrery from Eaglemoss and I am mid way through the Tellurion. There is shed loads to read and since I am retired I have more time than others. I find it fascinating reading about the Philosophers and astronomers of yesteryear, especially when one could lose their head for saying ...

binoculars

Hi all,
Just joined and interested in starting some stargazing. I've read online that is best to start of with good binoculars then move onto telescopes.
Can anyone suggest a good pair of binoculars for stargazing?
I have looked myself and came across "Helios Fieldmaster 10x50 Binoculars" and "Helios Fieldmaster 7x50 Binoculars" but again as Im new I don't know if any of these are suitable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks

Morning Everyone!

Hi everyone,

ThinAir (Chris) here, just reaching out and saying hi.

Got my first telescope for Christmas (A Celestron Astromaster 130EQ) as a result of the GF getting fed up of me threatening to buy one and spending most of my time outside at night developing a crick in my neck.

Noob

Hello all!

My name Chris, and I live just north of Toronto, ON. I just registered with Sky At Night Magazine and I am just waiting on the delivery of my first telescope - the Meade ETX 80 Backpack.

Looking forward to asking silly questions, learning new things, meeting good people and picking up this new hobby.

Cheers!

Chris.

I have begun this journey with a SkyWatcher Heritage 130p and have not had much luck with clear skies..

Starshot hype. It can't, won't work, so forget it.

Having caught the end of the Sky at Night on TV, I joined up to scotch the nonsense I heard about Starshot.

No, it can't, won't work, so forget it.

Even if you got a tiny probe that far, it could not send a powerful enough signal back to Earth so we'd never know even if it got there in one piece.

Crazy hype.

On the other hand, if a Russian billionaire offers me $100 ...
