Advice re Telescope Purchase

Hi All,

An earlier post I made supported my belief that more light per buck is the way to go.

However, in terms of specifics, what would people recommend under £300.

Unfortunately, cannot get hold of the SAN mag issue 1 where a few were revied and compared.

The Skywatcher explorer 130 seems like a contender......but is it worth the extra over the skyhawk 1145 ?

Also, what do people reckon to the cheaper (c£300) ...

American prices

My Meade telescope gained considerably in cost on its journey across the Atlantic to me, as do many other USA imports. So why is it that Sky and Telescope magazine, which is $6.99 in the USA, only costs £2.95 in the UK when, going by today's exchange rate, it should be £3.92?

I guess I shouldn't complain but it'd be nice if telescope prices worked like that!

All the packaging is there, fitting instructions, alun keys etc and its in top condition ...

Astro Alerts

Really pleased that you have got the forum back on line. I think that it is proving to be a great success as is the magazine. Well done to all involved.
Is it feasible for notification of astro alerts to be e-mailed to members as I don't check the forum every day, (very remiss of me I know).
Finally, do you think members would like the idea of groups for specific scopes; I have ...

Not quite a new discovery!!

Hi Gang,
I was out observing the other night and had the telescope set up with a medium power eyepice in and was happily drawing Saturn on the pad. All of a sudden a bright orange light appeared from nowhere. At first I wondered what was going on, until I looked away from the telescope to discover that an aeroplane had crossed the field of view and it must have ben the tail light I ...
