Join NASTRO at Hauxley Nature Reserve for an interactive stargazing workshop. The evening will include a fabulous constellation laser tour. There will be a variety of telescopes available for you to use, please feel free to bring your own equipment including binoculars if you have them. There will be a variety of resources available for you to look at and use on the night and you will be able to make your own Planisphere to take home. Free event. A HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE SOLAR SYSTEM

STARGAZING LIVE: ASTRO IMAGING WORKSHOP
Date: 14 January, 6:30pm
Druridge Bay Country Park, Morpeth, Northumberland NE61 5BX

Come and learn some hands-on astro-imaging techniques from some of our Society’s passionate skilled and experienced amateur imagers. The first part of the night will be focusing on taking photographs of the Moon through telescopes. We will later go on to some more advanced imaging with specialist techniques including the processing of images. We plan to have a go at astronomical spectroscopy which a lot of us here find exciting. It is used to find out the properties and movement of distant stars and galaxies by analysing their light. The evening will be lead by Nastronomers: Malcolm Robinson, Tim Kent and Bob Scott – you can see some of their work on our website. Free event. All ages welcome, warm room and drinks available. Please email to book. Be sure to wear plenty of warm clothing. Bring your own camera if you want to take photographs, it doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive – you can even use the camera on your phone!

COSMOS CARNIVAL
Date: 15 January, 6:30pm
Druridge Bay Country Park, Morpeth, Northumberland NE61 5BX

A few short celebratory talks on exciting astronomy themes followed by stargazing. Speakers will include Adrian Jannetta, Tim Allan and Oliver Wharf. We will also hold an “Ask An Astronomer” question and answer session where you will have the chance to ask those big burning questions such as “are we alone in the universe?” Free event. All ages welcome, drinks available. Please email to book your places. You are welcome to bring any observing equipment you have including binoculars and telescopes. Remember to wrap up warmly! We hope to see you there.
