Sky at Night Magazine

Hi all my first post here, please go easy on me.
I have been taking pictures of Jupiter this week, all I have been using is my digital SLR with a 300mm lens.
What is puzzling me is the green fuzzy image at the top left of the picture. Any ideas ? it appears on many of the images.

hi Chas, I'm wondering whether the green blur is Uranus. Uranus is near Jupiter at the moment.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here too... I've been taking images this week too. Nikon DSLR 70-300mm lens.

I'd like to know how you've managed to take such detailed images.

I also have the same blurry green triangle... I just assumed it was a light reflection.

(I'm brand new to photography and astro photography, please be patient)

Hi Boris thanks for the reply.
Im still not sure what it is.

Hi Joanne, it is very hard to get a sharp image :( but not impossible.
Not sure what camera you have, but it sounds basicly the same set up as me.
Try these settings... ISO 800 F8 and about a 1 second shutter.
Set your lens to infinity and mount your camera as firmly as poss. (this is very important)
Once you have got your image, download it to your computer and then crop in as much as you can....... if you are lucky you will get a sharp image ;)
I have better pics of Jupiter !! But this one had the funny green blob :O)

After watching sky at night yesterday I am wondering if the fuzzy green image in wy top picture it the Crab Nebula ????
