Buying a 2x Barlow

Postby Gert2015 » Fri Feb 09, 2018 8:53 am

Hello Everybody,

My name is Gert and i am new here at this forum (like it).
I live in Holland and have been busy on astronomy for a few years now.

I have 2 scopes the SW 200p dobsonian and my new grab and go SW heritage 130p flextube.
Really like them both.

Also i have a question about the SW heritage 130p flextube.
I want to buy a 2x times Barlow for it, but the focal travel on the flextube seems to be short.

Maybe you have some advice wich barlow i can buy?
Is the Orion shorty Barlow a good choice?

Thank you in advance, greetings Gert

Personally I rarely use a barlow preffering to have a decent better eyepiece and when I do I use them only on a refractor not a reflecting scope

Remember you get what you pay for.

Hello Gert

I have seen this mentioned before. Try not extending the tube to its fullest extent. Bring it down a little. You may then be able to focus the telescope using a barlow.
I use an 11" Celestron SCT (CPC 1100) on an equatorial wedge, housed in a 2.2m Pulsar observatory. I use a ZWO ASI1600MC and Canon 500D for imaging.

Thanks for de information, links and given tips.

I'm going to try it with a shorty Barlow, when I do not have enough focus travel I can Always shorten the tube.

Thanks again!

Come back and let us know what happens. At least with this telescope you can shorten the tube. With most other telescopes it wouldn't be an option!
