Has anybody ever heard of Seben telescopes? If so, are they any good?

Here's the link to their website: http://www.seben.com

Yes I have heard and had dealings with some of their products;
They offer very cheap Taiwanese imported crap that just has their name on them they don’t even inspect the products its all via drop shipping!
Don’t be fooled into thinking of cutting corners to save money as you will be at a loss with these shoddy products you pay your money and take a BIG chance with Seben.
So my advice is don’t go their and the other telescopes that are on Ebay such as (the telescope with the picture of the guy standing aside of it) what a lot of rubbish it is I have seen and used one. Stick with named branded products.
At least then you can be sure of the quality and your star gazing will be a pleasure for years to come.

I wouldn't be tempted by a telescope from them, but some of the eyepieces are OK. Their ED eyepieces are exactly the same (except for the name painted on them) as the Orion ED-2. I got mine (eBay) at half the price of the Orions. They are very good with a long focal ratio (mine is a Mak); I don't know what they're like with the more obtuse light cone of a faster scope.

HI STEPHEN,
I WAS VERY INTERESTED TO READ YOUR PIECE ON sEBEN EYEPIECES. I AM AWAITING THE ARRIVAL OF THEIR 8-24 ZOOM EYEPIECE WHICH SHOULD BE HERE ANY DAY NOW. HAVE YOU GOT ONE OF THESE? IF NOT I'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW I GET ON AFTER I HAVE MY FIRST OBSERVING SESSION WITH IT.
THANKS
JSC248.
To me astronomy is looking up and thinking "What the heck is going on up there!!"

No. The only zoom I ever had was a Vixen one (same as the TeleVue but different badge).

Thank's for all your input guys! I'm going to steer clear of them for sure (I knew it was too good to be true). Guess I'm getting the SKYWATCHER 200/1000MM EQ 5 then (is this any good?).

If you haven't already seen it, this thread may be of interest:-

The Skywatcher 200 EQ5 despite my slight reservation over the mount ( but I am VERY much in favour of the sturdiest mount you can reasonably afford) would be a considerable improvement over the Seben which is just badged el cheapo stuff from a company that also sells radio control cars ( nothing wrong with that on it's own, I have a radio control car myself ) and you would be far better off buying from an optical/astronomy company!

Thank's Skywatcher. I'll add the HEQ-5 to my budget.
