I am not sure where is best in the garden to put the housing for my scope. I have narrowed it down to a couple of positions.
1. 100% South view, 30% North.
2. 70% South view, 70% North.
I was going for the 70% answer due to sky glow, turbulence that low down etc. I know this is probably a stupid question, but any answer would give me a push into picking one once and for all. There is probably not much in it for the east and west, small gains for one, gives small gains to the other.

Are you a planetary observer (in which case you need a clear south horizon) or a deep sky observer (in which case a view to the north is more useful than the low bit in the south)?

I like to do both, but as it was a clear night again (yeah) decided to look around (quick tour) and see what I would miss from each point, so I think the North is needed for me. I do like to view planets, but looking at imaging deep sky objects etc, once summer has past, so I think 70-70 is a fair compromise.

I tend to point my observing instruments East. Most things rise in the east and set in the west. My view north is almost non-existent due to high trees in a neighbours garden and my view south is pretty bad due to sky glow. From my back garden my view west is gone because my house is in the way so all i am left with is East.

So 70%-70% (lets call it 50-50) sounds about the best to me. Ideally you should find a spot in your garden right in the middle of the lawn that gives you a half decent view in all directions.

I would love to have it in the middle of the garden, but i would like to keep all of my body parts attached to each other more.[;)]
