Shops in Lancashire

Postby ts_booth » Fri Jan 29, 2016 10:49 am

Complete newbie here, trying to find a decent shop in Lancashire to go and have a look at all the interesting telescopes I have read about. I am currently thinking about a 6" or 8" Dobsonian, probably the Sky Watcher Skyliner range. I don't recall ever having seen a dobsonian in the flesh, so wanted the chance to go and have a look and a play, but struggling to find anywhere around Lancashire that looks worth visiting. Anyone from Lancashire able to recommend a good shop?

Thanks in advance

Hi Tom
Sadly there aren't many bricks and mortar telescope shops around any more, most of them have gone online only - I'm thinking here of places like Opticstar and Stockport Telescope and Binocular, both of which were relatively local.

I suspect the nearest decent sized telescope shop to you might be Green Witch North in Batley. I've bought a few components from them in the past, and they've been at Star Parties, so I think their reputation is pretty good.

If there is a more local one, hopefully someone will let us know.
