I have heard that again tonight....

I dunno what they was they looked cool though, I thought it might have been the planets but i would have to have been looking West and i was looking East, if all else fails i can always say it was UFO's? [:)]

Sounds as if you are in a similar part ofthe world to me. Saw 3 of them last night about 10:00-10:30. Fortunately I was outside with binoculars so had a good view.

They were in a wind stream I would guess 4-500 ft up and were moving rapidly North to South (ish). More rapid then i would have supposed.

Could make out the underside and managed to see the lower frame and small flame. The main casing was indistinct.

I'd say they were almost certainly chinese lanterns. There seem to be more of the bu**ers about these days, ready to wreak havoc with astrophotography!

Sorry, yes, chinese lanterns.
Have to say the ones I saw were of reasonable size, have seen smaller ones. No idea where they were launched from.

What was strange to me was that a plane was going over and these seemed to be following at first. It was simply that they were being blown a similar direction and as they were lower their speed initially looked similar.

They were heading south south east the last I saw them, at a fair speed.

Was more impressed by the air flow they must have been in.
