Woke up this morning to a very clear sky. Orion, Hyades and Pleiades were high in the sky like old friends not seen for a while! Looks like autumn is on its way.

Autumn is a strange time for observing. It is interesting to note that even at the beginning of November Sagittarius and Capricornus are due south as the sky gets dark, much as it is now. This is because it gets dark earlier at almost the same rate as the sky moves. It is possible to view 'summer constellations' at the beginning of the night, and 'winter constellations' later in the evening. It moves very quickly from December onwards though.

I see the summer Milky Way quite often and have seen Albireo into November.
