Did anyone else see the planet like light gradually increasing in brightness then fading away to nothing this evening? It lasted about 30 seconds. It was to the lower south west of Mars at about 18.15 this evening.

No hope of seeing anything here cos it's cloudy and raining but Skymap shows me that the international space station should have been in that area at the time, with it rising at 1817 and vanishing at 1820 at an altitude of about 28 degrees in the south-west of the sky (from my location in Suffolk). I haven't checked out any other satellites but it looks like there's a good chance that this is what you saw.
