SW & Ring Encounter

Get a heads up on the best celestial events to observe

SW & Ring Encounter

Postby les » Mon May 01, 2006 10:30 am

HI All,
Theres an error on the events calander ,the closest approach of SW73 P is on the early morning of the 8th, when the comets nucleus passes 2 arc minutes to the north of the Ring Nebula. This occurs a little after 4am BST.Unfortunatly from the northern UK it will be starting to get light then so may have to observe no later than 3am BST when it will be about 14 arc minutes to the NW.Lets hope its clear.
Regards Les.

Les, if you see my entry in the events calendar under 6th May, it reads as follows:

Occurs at 03:00UT on 8th May (but unfortunately this calendar won't let me post an entry on 7th or 8th May)!!!

So it's not so much an error in the date of the entry as in the software being used in this forum. I had exactly the same problem with the 8th day of last month. For some reason the calendar wouldn't accept the entry I attempted to make on that date. This is something that the Sky at Night team will have to sort out.

Cheers Les & no worries.

In a way it's a good thing that the entry appears early. Bearing in mind that the close encounter takes place at 3am, the event would have passed before most people here would have read the entry in the 'events' calendar, had it appeared on the 8th.

If I get the same problem on 8th June, I'll e-mail Admin.
