The moon

A place to discuss the dreaded orange glow

The moon

Since the moon is THE major source of night time light pollution, I propose that we destroy it at once, by bombardment. LCROSS was a good start, but was hardly big enough. Such a step would have the added advantage of stopping that infernal howling of dogs and wolves. But please don't tell Sir Patrick. He might be a bit...miffed.

Blasting it into bits would make the problem worse ... freshly disturbed lunar material is lighter than that which has been darkening under bombardment from the solar wind for billions of years, the surface area would be hugely increased and the bits would spread round the orbit meaning we were never free of the thing.

Either leave it alone or cover the entire surface with long tubes lined with black flocking material.
