The WWW is being superceeded by the SAW

Postby psychobilly » Sat Feb 23, 2008 5:40 pm

Managed to scrounge enough scrap ally plate to make a replacement for the Wobbly Wooden Wedge...The Scrap Ally Wedge ;)

Last weeks encouraging experiments with the roughly aligned WWW and the autoguiding setup made me decide to make an Ally version to use as a "field" wedge where fine adjustment wouldnt be so much of an issue - especialy when autoguiding and imaging through the "66".

The dreary weather means no possibility of any observing so thought I'd spend a day in the machine shop (garage)

Spent today roughing out the plates and doing the functional machining - so its all together in rough form and I will do the cosmetic work tomorrow - being scrap plates there are holes and pockets all over the place so it won't look pretty but its another step towards the final fully adjustable design ..

Its already rock solid compared to the WWW but might get the joints betweent the plates (all bolted together with counterbored bolts) tig welded next week.

Will post some pics when its "finished" tomorrow...

Billy...

Here it is....

About 10 hours to machine all the plates by hand... Next one will be "out-sourced" to one of my local friendly CNC shops....

Really solid :)

Nevermind the wedge, that's a pretty nice V6 Clio going on there.

Yummie, cars and telescopes in the same picture - no better combination that I can think of unless we get smutty and this is a 'family' forum so I guess we better not!

I won't post any pics of the mobile "obseravatory" though.... The V6 isn't the most practical car in the world when it coems to transporting all the gear so I use a battered old sierra 4x4 estate for that purpose...

Talking of which i think it's time it had a run (the clio not the sierra)... although 4 weeks ago it did cost me £60 and 3 points .... tut tut....

nice job with the wedge & "game on" with the rocket powered rollerskate, I approve ! [8D]
All that extra CO2 is great for encouraging plant growth, proper eco-friendly not like zero emission junk !

Well the SAW works :)

Autoguiding with PHD using a Meade DSI Color on the 8" SCT at f6.3 as the Guide Cam and Meade DSI II C as the imaging camera on the "66"
