Seriously, it's probably a nightclub shining lights. I grew up in Blackpool where astronomers have to contend with all sorts of lasers and spotlights all the time...

Generally, if it doesn't look natural, it's probably man-made or an artifact of your equipment focusing (See figure eight double stars and geese flying in front of the Moon in other threads).

For some reason some organisations love to shine spotlights on clouds! I have sometimes received calls from friends asking if it is the aurora! if only . . . :(

Preferable to a Mysteron invasion though!
I use an 11" Celestron SCT (CPC 1100) on an equatorial wedge, housed in a 2.2m Pulsar observatory. I use a ZWO ASI1600MC and Canon 500D for imaging.
