I guess I should round this thread off with the news that I 'found' a suitable length of threaded tube which fitted the K mount and I bought a different focusser / eyepiece adapter. Between them, with the focussed as far forward as it will go, they manage to produce an image that's about 3mm behind the image sensor on the camera for objects at infinity - I can back the focus off by that short distance and focus the camera on the Moon etc.. Praise de lord.

Persistance always pays off. Thank you for coming back and telling of your success. I hope you will post some of your results.
I use an 11" reflector (Celestron CPC 1100) and a 3" refractor, (Sky-Watcher ST80) mounted on an equatorial wedge, housed in a 2.2m Pulsar observatory. I use a ZWO ASI 120MM, ZWO ASI1600MC and Canon 1300D for imaging.
