Wanted. Eyepiece adaptor

Wanted. Eyepiece adaptor

Postby clanny » Wed Apr 29, 2009 1:06 pm

I hope someone can help me out. I have purchased a Meade 4501 telescope but the eyepiece is 1". The focusing tube is 2" plastic painted silver and I've seen 1.25" adaptors that were included with the original kit but mine didn't come with one.

Does anyone have a 1.25" adaptor that would fit? Or would anyone suggest a replacement 2" focusing tube that's better quality? Bear in mind that I'm just a beginner and would initially be looking at the moon and planets with a view to getting some pictures of them. Price is also a consideration too. I'd also need 1.25" eyepieces to fit the adaptor.

Or should I look to get a 2" adaptor and 2" eyepieces?

And can anyone recommend an adaptor to allow me to attach my canon 400D to the scope?

Many thanks,

A 1" EP?

I've only heard of either 1.25" or 2" EP's.

I think Meade 4501's are supplied with 0.965" eyepieces. Try a good online retailer for a 0.965" to 1.25" adapter. If the focuser is of plastic construction it might flex, or break even, if you attach a DSLR to it. I would doubt that a 2" focuser would fit a 4.5" tube and would probably cost more than the telescope anyway.
