Where is everyone?

Postby jsc248 » Sun Jan 29, 2006 12:23 pm

[:D]Hi Gang,
I've just been having a talk with Les and it made me think that it would be nice to know where everyone is viewing the sky from. I'm from Huyton which is a town on the outskirts of Liverpool. Where are you all from? It will be interesting to find out just how scattered we all are!

To me astronomy is looking up and thinking "What the heck is going on up there!!"

Hi Jsc

As you can see below, I'm in Suffolk. Lucky enough to be in a small village without any street ligthing and reasonably dark skies.

HI,
I,m lucky I live in rural Midlothian surrounded by farmland.I have some light pollution towards the north over Edinburgh and slightly to the west. The south & east is very dark.I often see the Milky way. When observing I hear owls hooting and foxes barking and sometimes cows burping[:D]I once heard a snuffling sound put on my torch to see a hedgehog eating a slug by my feet.
Clear Skies Les.

I view the sky from Malta. Am I the only one outside the UK?

Hi all,
I've just moved to a place called Daddry Shield in the county Durham Countryside. It's a bit different from the cities that I'm use to but no light pollution at all.

Hi JSC,
I view from North Yorkshire, the general light pollution isn't too bad - that is till next door put all their floodlights on, that kills everything.
By the way JC, I now have Starry Night 4.5 - it's great!

Looks like there would be a lot of light from Kuala Lumpur, I'm from Wallsend, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I have a lovely orange sky courtesy of the shipyards.

Hi to all,
Reading is my abode but frequently travel to Ireland where LP is not an issue, in fact when I am there I find it harder to make out the constellations,(Novice) there are so many more stars to see with the naked eye!!!
