Sky at Night Magazine partner World Space Week 2012

A celebration of space science's contribution to a better world

Sky at Night Magazine is this year partnering with World Space Week 2012, a celebrationof space science's contribution to the betterment of humankind.

The aim of the week is to show people around the world the benefits of space exploration, to encourage greater use of space for sustainable economic development and to excite young people about orbital science.

World Space Week was founded in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly and takes place every year from 4-10 October.

The theme for this year’s event, ‘Space for Human Safety and Security’, has been chosen to highlight how satellites in orbit positively affect daily life on Earth, through observing programmes that monitor the world's oceans, track the movement of wild fires and many other important indicators.
