a popular target for amateur astrophotographers. The huge dynamic range M42 is actually quite a challenge to master with the extremely bright core and dim surroundings, multiple exposures of different lengths are required to be carefully blended to allow the core detail to show without looking overly artificial like a bad HDR photo. Here i have tried reproduce the nebula as naturally as possible with an additional Hydrogen Alpha layer to bring out the dim nebulosity in the surrounding.
