ngc1499 (California Nebula) is a huge dust and gas cloud excited to emission by nearby hot and energetic star Menkib (xi Persei). This object covers a large area of sky being about 2.5deg long and so is difficult to image all of it in one frame. This was a good test for my new large-format camera.
