Total Solar eclipse 2012

Palmerston North, New Zealand

Sony a200 camera, A total of 8 different exposures were taken during totality and stacked in Fitswork software to reveal coronal detail. Curves and levels were then applied in photoshop.

This montage image was taken during the total solar eclipse of November 14th. Being from New Zealand, I travelled to Northern Australia to witness this unforgettable event. Prominences poking out from the moons black disk are visible in the top left image, while the beautiful diamond ring is visible on the top right hand image. I am especially pleased with how much coronal detail I have captured in the center image.

I would also like to pay tribute to my hero Sir Patrick Moore. Rest in Peace Patrick, you were an inspiration.
