My name is Stewart Watt from Thurso,Caithness.I’m 56 and have been watching aurora for about 45 years and have been photographing them since 2010.
This shot was taken on the 20th Dec 2015.there had been a very strong geomagnetic storm going on all evening but we had been totally clouded out in Thurso on the North coast of Scotland. Had been hoping for a clear spell and luckily at 23.30 the skies cleared and the Northern Lights were dancing. So much so that the aurora was seen to the south as this shot shows the aurora sitting on Orion’s shoulders. Not very often you see that.
This is the 3rd time i’ve managed to capture corona aurora this solar cycle, the other times being 27th Feb 2014 and the 18th March 2015.
