It's been a great week for stargazing, the Perseid meteor shower reaching its peak and Venus and Jupiter looking beautiful together in the morning sky.

On 12 August 2025, Venus and Jupiter were so close together, they appeared as a double star in the dawn twilight, just before sunrise.

If you missed it, don't worry, because the two planets are still close together; it's just that they're now beginning to slowly drift apart, day after day.

And now the Moon is hopping across the sky, tracking further eastwards each day and meeting numerous Solar System planets as it does so.

Next week we'll be greeted by the August 2025 planet alignment when Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, the Moon and Uranus will be parading in a line in the morning sky.

Thanks to everyone who sent us their images of the Venus-Jupiter conjunction. Here are some of the best.
