The Bresser Portable Power Supply 100 Watt is a compact power supply for your astro needs. For those of us who have portable set ups either for garden use or taking to a dark-sky site, a portable power supply is essential.

We need one that can tackle the rigours of not just powering the mount but also the many accessories that go with today’s systems, especially imaging equipment such as powering cameras, dew systems and even charging up smart gadgets such as smart phones and tablets.

The Bresser portable power supply has at its heart a 155Wh 13Ah/12 Volt (42000mA/3.7V) lithium ion battery that takes up to 8 hours to fully recharge using the supplied mains charger, which also comes with an adapter for the UK market.

It is supplied with 3x 12v connections, 2 adapters of 5.5/2.1mm hollow plug to cigarette lighter sockets, 3 x usb connections for powering/charging up smart devices and peripheral equipment, each providing 5-9 Volt 2.1 Ampere and a USB C connection.

There is also a 230 Volt AC out socket that provides 100 Watt continuous power suitable for notebooks and other devices in that wattage range.

The power pack also provides a red light, useful for astronomical purposes and a white light which is helpful when setting up equipment initially, although we’d suggest using this only when you are on your own (star parties frown upon the use of white light when you are in groups).

We used the power pack over several nights in late summer / early autumn and powered our GoTo mount, a dew controller (single strap) and our iPad and we still had 2 of the 4 status bars lit up after a 5-hour continuous session.

Most of our sessions were 2 to 5 hours and we recharged in between sessions. There were no power fluctuations and it performed well in our tests, giving us a reliable power supply.
