Saturn is currently visible in the night sky, rising in the east just after sunset, around 21:00–22:00, depending on your exact location.

It's visible with the naked eye, so you may have already seen it without realising, if you've been out late at night.

Saturn is visible all night in August, and really improves from the middle of the month onwards, making this a great time to spot the planet, if you've never seen it before.

Here are some of the key facts you need to know if you're planning on spotting Saturn in August 2025.

Saturn rises in the east around 21:00–22:00, depending on your location, which means a clear eastern horizon is needed if you want to see it rise.

It gets higher though, tracking westward and visible in the southeast around midnight, then disappears in the southwest as the Sun rises.

It's currently in the constellation Pisces, next to the Circlet asterism.

Saturn can be seen with the naked eye in August 2025, and looks like a bright star high in the southeast around midnight.

Telescopes or a pair of binoculars will help you get a better look at it, and you might even be able to see dim Neptune just above it.

Use a good stargazing app to help you find it.

Don't expect a good look at Saturn's rings, however: the planet is currently tilted with its rings almost edge-on, as seen from Earth.

But Saturn will brighten more and more towards the end of August which, with ever-darkening skies, makes it a great target to spot night after night.

Saturn reaches opposition – the best time to see it – on 21 September 2025, so this is a good time to get acquainted with the planet.
