This dark dust cloud, stretching from upper right to lower left, obscures the light from the red emission nebula (IC 1318, also known as the Butterfly nebula) behind it. The dust cloud is about 20 light years thick. The whole complex lies in the centre of the Cygnus constellation.

Not an easy target and on the night the weather limited me to only a few sub exposures. In the past this would have been an impossible target due to light pollution however the local council recently changed the old sodium street lights with sky friendly LED lights and it does make a difference.
