Teleskop service 12″ Richey-Chretien telescope, Skywatcher EQ8 mount,Atik 383L+ camera, Astronomik LRGB filters.

Spriral galaxy colliding with it’s companion galaxy, only 30 million light years away in the constellation of canes venatici.

My favourite spiral galaxy to image as it is bright and you always capture lots of dust lane detail and red star forming regions.

Used unsharp filter and increased the saturation in processing to help bring out the detail.

Removed the focal reducer and kept my telescope at F8, to frame the whirlpool with a small field of view, to create a high resolution image.

Used my christmas present high end rack & pinion focuser to help get precise focus.

Data collected on 3 nights. 8th, 12th & 13th January

LRGB image with 8 hours and 40 minutes of data. 25 x Lum 9 x Red 9 x Green 9 x Blue 10 minutes exposures.
