Strange shiny craters on the moon

We took this picture of the moon with my camera against the lense of my Dad’s telescope. Using Photo Editor later we got this amazing effect of shiny white craters. Is this caused by new craters reflecting the sunlight more or is it an optical illusion due to the position of the moon? I love learning about the stars and planets and the moon was great to look at last night.
