M83 (NGC 5236 or the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy) is large barred spiral galaxy located approximately 15 million light-years away in Hydra. At -29 degrees declination, this one was only 28 degrees high when it crossed the meridian so it was a bit of a challenge to get decent data.
